KILL J BARBIE GIRL (KILL J COVER)

Just when we thought we couldn’t crush any harder on white-hot Danish electro-nymph Kill J, out flies the most apocalyptically psychedelic take ever on Aqua’s 1997 plastic fantastic classic, ‘Barbie Girl’. Following on from her recent uncharacteristically chilled-out (but bloody ace) dub-pop number ‘You’re Good But I’m Better’, Ms. J pulls no punches with her trippy recreation of the Top 40 mega banger, with fluttery, fairy-high octaves and relentless drums swiftly shuttling the listener into pitch-black, lucid dream territory. Her recessive, honey-tinged chant of ‘...you can touch, you can play, if I’m always yours’ may bear little resemblance to its Eurodance cousin, but just like the catchy original it's destined to be one seriously hypnotic earworm. -AO
